Principal’s Report
We are certainly enjoying the change to autumnal weather after the extensive hot summer. As the weather gets colder, please ensure students are wearing the school jacket. There are some jackets in our preloved school uniform shop for sale or you can purchase them through Tudor Uniforms, who deliver to the school every Friday, free of charge. Puffer jackets, hoodies etc are not part of the school uniform. It certainly looked nice at the ANZAC Day service to see everyone in the correct uniform, it does make a difference.
Mother’s Day Stall
A huge thank you to the P&C for the Mother’s Day stall. There were so many fantastic items for sale and several very dedicated parents to sell it. Please see the article further down the newsletter regarding this.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge officially commenced on Monday 6 May and runs until Friday 6 September. Establishing a life-long love of reading is so important in the development of students’ literacy skills. The challenge program is designed to encourage student’s reading enjoyment. There are amazing prizes that can be won including a Nintendo Switch. Each week, students who log their reading achievements go in the draw to win a prize. Check out the reading challenge's newest buddy from another galaxy by registering at premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au/champions
WA Student Assistance Payment
A reminder to parents to apply for their WA Student Assistance Payment if they haven’t already done so. The school can assist with student numbers if you can’t find it on a school report.
Student Free Day
Friday 31 May is our next Professional Learning Day for staff. This means it is a student free day. Hopefully you can take advantage of the fact that the following Monday 3 June is Western Australia Day thereby giving you a four-day weekend.
Staff Leave
Mrs Angela Falco commences Long Service Leave on Wednesday 22 May, and we wish her safe travels. While every effort is made to keep continuity with relief teachers it is not always possible. We thank you in advance for your understanding of this matter.

Year 6 Camp
The Year 6's had a fun filled 3 days at Dare Adventure Camp in Dwellingup. We all participated in and thoroughly enjoyed kayaking, raft building, zip lining, rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering, bushwalking and archery tag. The night time activities included the chocolate game, musical chairs and the much-anticipated night walk where Mr Rakimov had a special treat in store for each group. The food was good and there was plenty to eat. Free time activities included eating as much junk food as possible and some friendly ball games.
Student Camp Recounts
On the first day we were excited but a little nervous, but we were happier about missing school. On Monday morning we left school at 9:30 and arrived at camp at about 11:00. When we arrived, we unpacked our bags from the bus, and we got a brief from Crash. After that we got to pick our rooms to sleep in and we unpacked our bags and made our bed. Then we got into our groups and activities. The first activity was archery tag and Ice T taught us how to use a bow and arrow, then we played a 5v5 game of archery tag.
On Tuesday morning group B set up for breakfast and we had eggs on toast and cereal. Then we got organized for our next activity, which was rock climbing, abseiling and the flying fox. We got a brief from Riley and then we got started on rock climbing and abseiling. When we finished doing rock climbing, we got to do the flying fox. The flying fox was above the dam and across the dormitories. The flying fox was really high, and it was scary walking up the metal stair. In the afternoon we got on the bus to go kayaking. We got a briefing by Einstein and then we got into our kayak. We did a race around the river, then we got drenched by Mr Ker and got tipped into the water. At night we got ready for the night walk. It was really fun and scary. When we got back, we did a little bit of star gazing and went to bed.
On Wednesday morning we got up and packed our bags, then we had breakfast at 8:00. After that we did our last activities. Our last activity was orienteering, and it kept leading us close to the graveyard. We then had lunch, we got our bags and got on the bus. We got back at 2:30 and went home with our parents. We think camp was really fun and amazing, I hope the next year sixes have as much fun as we did.

When we arrived at school, we were feeling mixed emotions like nervousness, happiness, and a bit of worry. Our expectations were high. We were expecting decent food, to have fun and to get at least 3 hours of sleep.
We left at 9:30 and arrived around 11 o’clock (the bus ride was hectic). As soon as we got there, we unload the bags from the bus and got a quick brief from Crash. After we went to the dorms (the girls and boys got separate dorms thankfully) to unpack and made our beds. Then we had lunch at the hall.
The activities we did at camp were rock climbing, abseiling, flying fox, orienteering, kayaking, raft building and archery tag. Our favourite activity was kayaking because it was super fun and we got to drench Mr Rad and Lj.
A super funny moment was when we went raft building at the river. Our raft fell apart in the water and Grace, Lilly, Ayla and Rahuff had to jump into the freezing water to go get the parts of the raft.
On the last day we quickly packed up in the morning and ate brekkie. Then we had one last activity (archery tag) and after that we filled up the bus with our suitcases. Then we left for home. We arrived back at around 2:30 and got picked up by our parents.

On Monday we arrived at camp in Dwellingup around 11:00am after a long drive. Upon arriving we took out our luggage and went into the hall. Crash (the instructor) explained upcoming events and lead us to the dorms. After we unpacked our bags and set up our beds.
We did 6 activities including rock climbing, abseiling, flying fox, raft building, kayaking, orienteering, archery tag and the night walk. For rock climbing there were three different parts from easy to hard. On the flying fox, we got sent across the camp and over a little dam. For raft building and kayaking, we went down to the lake. When we arrived, it was freezing cold. Although the weather was freezing, we still continued. Most of the rafts we built sunk. When it came to our raft, it lasted for around 6 seconds then capsized. Almost everyone got wet in the end. Next was kayaking. Kayaking was at the same lake. We started by bringing the kayaks down to the lake. After bringing the kayaks down we created groups of two and started paddling. We kayaked downstream and occasionally had to raft up (all kayaks in one place).
For orienteering, We explored the forest and searched for these codes located at the specific locations we were searching for. (Forked road, rusty old tank, fallen tree etc.) In the end my team came 2nd. Next was the night walk. We started in the dining hall. Then we got split up into groups. The groups were in a big line following the instructors. The forest was dark and mysterious. Although it was dark, our eyes eventually adapted to it, giving a clearer sight of the forest. About halfway, we got split up to walk by ourselves back to camp. Finally, there is archery tag. First, we went to an area that had bows, arrows, and an area to play. We started by learning how to shoot. Then we played some games against other teams for a while. After that we played a long round of last man standing.
On the last day, we packed up the dorms and cleaned up our beds. Soon after, we packed our luggage into this place below the bus and hopped in the bus. The drive back was once again an hour and a half. Finally, we arrived at school ready to be picked up by a parent or guardian!
I thought the dorms would be dirty and a very miniature room with 2 bunk beds. I was nervous and I excited at the same time – Boston.
I thought we were going to be in the woods in tents. I was also excited and nervous – Xavier.

Summer Carnival
Our Year Five and Six students competed in the Summer Carnival in Week 1. They played games of flag belt rugby league, soccer, volleyball and ultimate frisbee against five schools in a round robin fixture.
As always, our senior students accounted for themselves and their school in the way we expect them to, they competed fairly, behaved themselves and set a good example for others to follow. The carnival is mostly about participation in a competitive environment and many students from the five schools were playing a sport quite foreign to what they would normally play or choose to play.
Our flag belt teams (A and B) managed to complete the day successfully and were adjudged the winning school for that competition. The volleyball, ultimate frisbee and cricket teams finished their day midtable, but their "Coaches" were proud of their efforts.
Winter Sport
The senior classes will be training for winter sports, including AFL, soccer, netball and lacrosse. If any parents would like to assist with coaching and umpiring any of these teams on Friday afternoons, please contact Mr Lee ASAP.
We are in negotiations with our Eagles Cup schools, trying to sort out some timetabling complications. I will keep students and parents up to date as information comes through on this. Best case scenario sees us play two mini carnivals at Hampton Park and Emberson against Hillcrest and Noranda on selected Friday afternoons.

Library News
Thank you to students who have made the effort to bring borrowed books back after the holiday break. There are still a lot of overdue books that are not being returned. Books can be returned Tuesday to Friday from 8 am into the returns box so there are no excuses. Students can also return books on Mondays, with their teacher’s permission, however they will not be able to borrow on this day.
Chess Tournament
The Chess tournament is on again in the library! Thank you to all the Year 5 and 6 students who competed this week. This year Mr Reynolds, Mrs Cunningham and I will be running it. There will be updates in each newsletter.
WAYRBA
We now have WAYRBA books in the library which means students can read and vote on these books. The votes collected from each of the books are sent to WAYBRA and at the end of the year the winning Authors will receive awards in varying categories. I also have a box for any students who would like to nominate a book for next year’s competition. They can see me if they need help filling out the form or they can go to WAYBRA’s website and nominate there.
